Had some people out to clean the pool. The swamp is now empty! They will be turning it back into a real pool, too... and all for only $600.

That's about $10,000 less than one quote I got.

it's lovely to get a place sorted out, isn't it? We've been spring cleaning and getting rid of lots of old rubbish and junk. The bedroom looks miles better.

well done. $600 is a lot still, but so much better than trying to do it yourself.
Snailquake thinks

it was a reasonable price for the work involved.
Farrier says

very reasonable: two guys worked their asses off in the baking sun from before 11am until 6:30, carting away four truckloads of leaves which (I looked it up) will have cost them $40 each to dump.

Not counting how much they spent on all the equipment (a $400 trash pump they've so far used only three times this year; a set of brand new fireman hoses; pressure washer; etc)...
Farrier says

...that's $220 each for 7 hours work, or about $30/hr, or about 18 pounds an hour.

My whole body is in agony, muscles, joints, sunburned skin, mosquitobites (I have 10 on each ankle alone), scratches, bruises... and I didn't work a fraction as hard as they did.

I gave a 10% tip and wished I could give moew.
