what's project bookplate?
I'm going to WorldCon next week, in London.
There are going to be lots of authors. However, it seems that authors are often happy to sign a bookplate, rather than necessarily a full copy of their book. (Even if they'd rather you buy the copy.)
So with the help of some art from
DoverPictura - Site, some printable adhesive-backed paper from the local stationary store, and a paper knife and cutting board, I now have some adequate bookplates.
Scott Lynch, Elisabeth Bear, Seanan McGuire, Ursula Vernon, others...
that's a cool idea, esp since actual books get heavy... :\a
And I think that as long as you make it clear you have the books at home, and have already purchased them and are supporting the author...
yeah, exactly! plus there's ebooks...
I suppose one could always stick the bookplate in a scrapbook or similar...
haha i'm having flashbacks to library cons, where they give books out like candy but it very quickly gets to a point where the soul is willing but the body cannot... carry... any more...
I suspect there will be a lot of things given out at Worldcon, too.
i can imagine! it sounds huge and fun :>
I can't wait.
.............................those look like they'd make fantastic embroidery transfers
Doverpictura stuff is very useful.
totally saving that for when i have a chance to practice :B
I've bought some collections from there because I want to try printing them out on fabric for quilt panels, even though I haven't got round to it yet.
ahhhhhhhhhhh these are so cool!
i really like art nouveau, too ;;
also a lot of them look like they'd make really cool prints :\a
And check out some of the other collections, too.
Admittedly it's all public domain art, so it's not as if you couldn't probably find it elsewhere if you really looked, but it is convenient, and it is very reasonably priced.
It'd mean a handwash quilt, but... (The inkjet printer I've got, you can get printable fabric to work with it, but the result must be handwash or dryclean.)
I love that whole collection. I couldn't believe I'd never heard of that artist or seen his work before.
... well, buy the collection, print them out, get some cheap frames...
and, eh, that sounds reasonable for something that (i assume) you wouldn't have to wash all that often anyway?
hahaha i would if my printer was better than it is! although i guess i could send it to staples or sthg
/nods - it would be quite manageable.
There are a lot of other vector design books on there, which would probably also work well for embroidery designs.
mmm, i'll remember that :\a ...for if i ever have time again, sob
but seriously, thank you for sharing that website :> it's really cool
I'm very glad to share it! I like it a lot, and I'm surprised it's not more widely known.
