Something is in there but it is too dark to see in when there isn't sunlight in there.
The attic is usually dark because there isn't light in there except for a lamp.

Also that the noises stop whenever I approach there.

Well, it supposed to be normal but I cannot stand it anymore.
Maybe we should set a fire or something there to see what happens.

The attic is not totally linked to the house itself, so I think they won't burn together.
