So... If I was to make socks with sport weight yarn, what needle size would you recommend? I'm thinking a US 3/3.25 mm needle. I typically use a US size 1/2.25 mm needle with fingering weight yarn.

Sounds about right. You could always start knitting and see if you like the fabric you're getting

I started some with 3s I frogged them because the yarn was boring

I use 3.25 mm for DK weight socks so I'd use 2.75 mm for sport weight.

I use 2s, unless it's a heavier sport - could be light dk. Then a 3.
