y'know it's kind of surprising I haven't gone there yet. I think it has to do with my previous blue deficiencies
but I THINK I have that under control now so PotC goes on the list!
If you do a Hector colorway I will prostitute myself for it.
hahaha of course I'm gonna do a Hector
PotC is on my list for when I can afford to start really dyeing again.
But yes, that would be lovely, do want, I may even not be destitute then.
Skyrim would be neat, too, but Idk if you'd care about that.
the good news is I almost always have two skeins of every colorway I do, and they're usually each at least big enough for a small crochet project
It's because I got tired of staring at pretty yarns I couldn't justify buying 'cause they wouldn't get me a full project. >.>
This is legit me all the time.
Idg spinners on Etsy who are like HERE IS 50 YARDS.
hmm Skyrim would be cool. I'd have to play more, though, which is dangerously close to counterproductive. might put it after my giant Tolkien project
fjsdf Yeah, Skyrim's a life-eater.
Especially the pc version because so many people build their own quests.
50 yards is NOTHING. NOTHING. my roommate can make hand mitts out of it but I can do NOTHING
And they'll charge a ridiculous price for it.
And I'm like. Wtf am I going to do with fifty yards of think and thin underspun crap. :T
I've got it on xbox but I still lose entire days when I jump into it. so I probably should have been filling my days with it this winter while I was a couch-bound zombie
I just made a new character but I legit just got Ralof to cut me loose and that's it. Haven't touched it since.
I unashamedly spin primarily for crocheters, so it's yardage-focused and maybe a little overspun sometimes because I hate yarn that splits on me
I see nothing wrong with this.
Since I do both. And if it ends up being knit, well. More yardage for that.
Like, I refuse to buy skeins of sock yarn that aren't enough for two socks.
I mean, I have tiny feet, and I could squeeze two ankle socks out of 230 yards, but.
But that's a standard I only hold for the big yarn companies? If that makes sense?
When it's like. $15+ for 50g of sock yarn.
This is why I troll Etsy.
big yarn companies have no excuse for not making sure you can get two socks out of a skein of sock yarn
Lorna's Laces are kind of skimpy like that.
I admit I've got some skeins that are like 64 yards and stupid expensive right now, but that's 'cause it's chain-plyed and I shouldn't even be trying to sell chain-ply
Well, it being handspun actually makes a difference.
You're not just paying for the pretty dye job, you're paying for the fact that it was made into yarn.
yep, spun and dyed!
and spun in a way that most people don't offer, but eh
That is something I have no issue with.
But some folks are just...Idk.
I have a few issues with some of the more popular indie dyers.
I won't name any names, but there's one in particular that sells out every time they make a shop update and I can't for the life of me figure out why?
Their dye jobs looks...Spotty to me. And not like. In an intentional way.
yeah I don't understand stuff like that
Just every time I see their yarn there's this. White spots all through it and it looks like the dye didn't take rather that it being a desired effect.
Really, it looks like they're trying to get the madtosh look without...Understanding how glaze dye works.
I'm thinking of maybe getting into just dyeing, a little, so I can offer some non-wool alternatives but I'm not going to do it unless I can do it well and cheap compared to my handspun
From everything I've done dye-wise, it actually...Tends to run fairly cheap.
A lot of the more popular wool and non-wool sock bases are amazingly cheap by the cone, considering.
I really need to get out to the big LYS an hour away, see what they've got to offer and go from there. they like to price their stuff high because they're the Big Store in the state/region
but sometimes their big bulk stuff is worth it
I wish we had one close to here. It's just a few local ones a few hours away.
I've been looking at Wool2Dye4 since that's my ultimate goal for my Etsy is to carry yarn and stuff.
And I've had yarn in most of the bases and it's really nice.
But like. 10 skeins of Cash Sock MCN will set you back $106???
And their full sock skeins, too.
So, if you follow the trend and sell them at $23 or so a pop?
hm that might not end too bad, depending on your dyes
I might have. Done the math.
my ultimate goal is to grow as many of my dyes as I can
Nnnngh, yes this. Natural dyes.
It's amazing how vibrant they can be with the right mordant.
yes! I started with onion skins, then did indigo this last year and fell helpless in love
Oh man, indigo is on my to-do list.
Blues. All shades of blues. I love them.
it smells SO MUCH like all those warnings are not jokes
my roommate evacuates and the cats hide
I really want to get a good hotplate so I can do it outside
idk if the powder stinks as much as doing fresh leaves do? but man, MAN do the leaves reak
Lmao this is good to know, because I would totally assume they are lying.
hopefully I'll be teaching a dyeing class come this June sometime
that'll be all natural dyes, unless my dad jumps in to teach the acid dyes
Oh.
and hopefully I get my freebee giant sunflower seeds to grow so I can use those
since most of their knitting competitions have cash prizes but their spinning one doesn't? and is a weaving subcategory?
I'm declaring any successful dye attempts my prize from last year
OKAY SO my list for this summer thus far:
