I loved him even before the Waterhouse explosion in the 1990s.

I find it oddly heartening that he painted such plain-looking women. Perhaps ideals of beauty have changed ...?

Given my preference for abstract paintings, it's may be a surprise that I love Waterhouse. I think it's because I came across this painting early in life and fell in love with the theme.
