agree for the last part. The animals been trained for entertainment purpose and sometimes i doubt that do they get food other than the performance time?
yeah. but I never know that animals without interesting genes would be killed like they don't deserve to live. 
this can be seen in those animal breeding. They only breed for the best genes in order to get the so-called 'perfect animal'...
