Umm basically cats have a gap in their teeth so what you want to do is slide your finger in there because it'll make them open their mouth, even if just fast, to try to get your

finger out. Keep the other hand ready, toss the pill in while their mouth is open, then tilt their head up and stroke their throat as swiftly (though gently) as possible to force them to swallow

Obviously they will in the meantime be attempting to foam/spit the pill out though and if it doesn't get straight into the mouth they'll probably succeed but

that gap is your best bet at getting the mouth open, it's instinctual for them to open their mouth if they feel something in it

(If the vet changes from pills to liquid in response the gap is also where you'd want to stick the syringe)
