I actually watched it last night before bed so these aren't m immediate thoughts regarding yesterday's episode but oh well.
Can I just say that Gaim is shaping up to be my favorite season? Because hot dog I love EVERYONE.
I was iffy about it after Wizard. Wizard was... bad.
Wizard had a lot of promise and fell flat on it's face and coming off of that I sure wasn't expecting anything better from FRUIT SAMURAI.
But It's impressed and surprised me a lot already and we're a little less then a quarter of the way into the season.
The protag has a surprising bit of character. Like, not as much as Fourze's, but way more then Wizards and even more then OOO's did (sorry Eiji).
Back up characters are also great. Baron is an asshole, Ornac is is great subversion to the smug megane trope and
Bravo...
Flamboyent older gay male who has a crush on the main villian and is actually more powerful (at the moment) then the protag and anti-hero unless they join forces? Perf.
I mean, just an older character doing ANYTHING interesting is a nice change of pace in toku/japanese media in general.
The plot is proving to be really interesting as well.
There's a lot of changing loyalties going on and it's all believable for the most part.
Certainly not as hamfisted as 555/Faiz was.
The thing I worry about is that as much as I fangirl it now, I worry if Gaim can keep it up.
W's ending was really something else and not in a good way. The final boss of OOO's was really dry and kinda lame.
I don't even remember how Fourze ended but I remember enjoying it at least?
And Wizard was just as dry when it ended as when it began.
I really hope Gaim can break the trend of terrible final acts that are common in modern Heisei era riders.
