miss marvel has been relaunched by Marvel Now as a 16-year old american-muslim teen.
Interesting move on Marvel's part. HUGE risk. They know they're gonna be losing money on this. I applaud the leap in diversity though.
It's gonna lose money because they're essentially making a legacy character who is legacy only in fandom and name. Most legacy characters have similar power sets to the original. This is far from it.
oho. the newsarama article makes more sense. so its a teen who takes on the legacy name of miss marvel.
And they're trying to launch said "legacy" character in a solo book before featuring her in a team book.
Add the fact that she's female and non-white and Muslim to begin with. Very balsy move.
Other thing on my mind: "Okay, so this is the new Ms Marvel book. What about CAPTAIN Marvel? Does Carol also have a solo title? I loved that."
Side note: There may be an additional disadvantage in that she has stretchy powers, and there's an additional stigma against the idea of females distorting their bodies (though Mrs. Incredible says otherwise)
