turning down the offer to turn spy but she hadn't seen Soren and decided it was time to move on and help her army in a different way. The vehicle comes to a stop and the other nurses step off one by one.-
Gjertrud follows behind them in line as they are given a tour of the camp. When they break for lunch, she sits alone in the mess tent, picking at her food in silence.
would be devastated if he knew she took up the offer, and was already here... He could at least try to explain himself, maybe.
finishes her lunch and the lead nurse starts to guide the new nurses to the medical area. She shows them the supply station before moving to the medical tent. The nurses walk in line past a few of the beds.
trying to rest, breathing shallow with a clear sweat on his forehead. He hadn't been able to think clearly and it always bothered him.
hardly looks at the patients as she walks by. Perhaps the greatest challenge for her would be her intense dislike for anyone in the Gondwana military. She would help the injured, but she would not enjoy it. -
They start to pass the more critical cases and she glances at them as they pass, diagnosing them in her head. They pass a bed and she stops, the nurse behind her bumping into her. "Sorry...." She steps out of-
line and walks over to the bed, freezing. "Soren..."
twitched a bit, opening his eyes faintly to look at her. "... F-fanden..." He smiled faintly after, triyng to focus on her.
frowns and crouches next to him. "Wh-what are you doing here?" She reaches out to grab his wrist to check his pulse, her own thoughts and heart racing.
had a weak pulse, but it was at least consistant. "I... I was brought here... My jacket g-got torched, and I was in n-no-mans land... I was lucky..."
pulls her hand away and clenches her fists, starting to tear up. "How long have you been in here?"
closed his eyes and leaned his head more into the pillow. "Not s-sure... a few days maybe? I've lost track of time... I sleep, and sleep... that's 'bout it..."
frowns and rests her head against the edge of the bed so he couldn't see her cry. "I'm sorry..."
frowned as he opened his eyes again and looked to her. "Hej... ye have no reason to be..." He moved his hand slowly and rested it against her head. "Be strong..."
pauses when she feels his hand and starts to cry more. "I should have been there to help, I should have helped you like you helped me..."
frowns and shook his head faintly, stroking her hair as best he could. "... In a way.." He cut himself off, wondering if this was the best time to tell her.
blinks up at him, wiping her eyes. "Y-yes?"
sighed. "We're enemies..." He felt it was better to tell her this now, mostly so she'd stop crying and feeling sorry for him.
stares at him. "What do you mean?"
took a shaky breath. "This... t-this is my home..."
frowns. "Soren, I don't... I don't understand..." Was the medicine making him say strange things?
bit his lip and closed his eyes. "... Gjertrud, I'm from Gondwana. My home, my family, my life... is here..." It hurt him to say this to her, since he really wanted to be her friend.
stares at him, face remaining stoic. "No..."
started to cough from trying to supress his emotions, turning his head away from her as some blood apperared on the bedding.
watches him in silence. He couldn't be the enemy...
shivered as he calmed down again, opening his eyes faintly though kept his head turned. "At least ye've stopped cryin'..."
clenches her fists. "So when are you going to tell them about me?"
didn't want to look her in the eyes. "M'not..."
stands up and looks away from him, hesitating before she starts to walk away, shaking with pent up emotion.
could tell that she was walking away and clenched his eyes shut, irritated with the situation. "... I'm s-sorry."
frowns with her back to him. "You used me... I should have never helped you."
frowned a furrowed his brows. "Used ye? Nej. I'd never do that."
"I should have never let you into camp."
"If it makes a difference... I was usin' the information I gathered to lead these guys astray..."
growls under her breath. "And why should I believe that?"
turns his head towards her. "I hate death."
"Then you are in the wrong business."
frowned. "... Please don't go..."
turns on her heel to face him, a glare visible on her face. "So you can tell me more lies? I don't think so."
shook his head as he tried to sit up, wincing. "G-Gjertrud... I was honest about almost everything I s-said..."
sighs. "Lay down, you're not going to get better if you don't calm down."
frowns. "I can't calm down knowin' ye're mad.."
"That's your own fault for getting too involved."
hissed as he leaned back a bit to relax on the pillow. "Just... I wanna talk..."
....walks back towards him slowly. She did not want to talk but she also didn't want him to injure himself by stressing out.
took a deep breath as he looked down. "I agreed to this so I could know yer positions... and send my troops away from them. Of course it didn't always work, but... it's saved a lot of lives..."
scoffs. "The fighting has only been getting worse. One person alone will not change that."
nods. "But I try... Even so, because of ye, I've been healin' people when I come across them, friend of foe..."
"That doesn't change that I am still your enemy."
frowned and looked down. "... We don't have to be..."
"I cannot be anything but your enemy."
looks to her. "Only if ye make me yer enemy..."
doesn't say anything to that.
winced again. "... I was serious when I wanted ye to come to my village."
"Gondwana has taken everything from me."
nods a little. "That I can't change, but it can also give you back somethin'..."
shakes her head. "No, it cannot."
frowns. "I can help ye get a community..."
growls under her breath. "No."
nodded a little, feeling defeated. He looked down and put a hand lightly over his chest.
starts to walk away again.
frowns. "Gjertrud... I.." He sighed quietly before sinking back into the bed, laying down again. "I h-have a favour to ask of y-ye... I know it's a lot b-but... "
bit his lip again, sighing. "I know... know it's a lot to ask... but could ye not hurt a tall blond German guy?"
"I cannot promise to refrain from harming any citizens of Gondwana. That includes you..."
frowned and looked to her. "I would do almost anythin' for him... and if it includes keepin' myself bound here, I will."
clenches her fists and starts to walk out.
watched her and dug his nails lightly into his chest, ignoring the pain it caused. "I'll do almost anythin'..." He figured if he was here then she'd not have to worry about him spying in Laurasia.
shakes her head. "You have done too much as it is." She keeps walking.
frowned more as he continued to dig his nails into his chest, hoping the pain would eventually drown out the guilt he felt for making the other upset.
walks out of the medical tent. He was probably lucky he was in hospital and she would feel guilty hurting him.
really didn't want her to find out, but at least now there were no secrets between them. He still wished she'd come back with him though..
wouldn't even consider it at this point.
could tell... He felt terrible. He just prayed she didn't hurt the German... and maybe even help him, if he needed it.
didn't know or care who the German was. Though she was a little jealous that Soren seemed to care more about him than her.
clearly cared about her, or else he wouldn't have helped her when she fell in the forest. Or even stay and learn to become a semi-medic. She was his only other friend here, and knowing she hated him now hurt.
assumed that he really hadn't liked her and just used her to spy.
never intended to use anyone but the commanders of Laurasia... he treated her like a true friend. He was honest with when she talked about her family... He really did feel sad about losing her.
wasn't going to trust him again anytime soon.
figured as much... he didn't know if it'd be better to stay here, or get better as quick as he could...
