Well, I'm sure most of you already know this but I preach it whenever I can: I really, really don't like woobie!Loki
I know that's how a lot of fans see him and I can't exactly tell them that their opinion is wrong - but I just don't believe that that is EVER what his actions in any canon convey.
People see a man crying, or a man who shows lots of other emotion, or even a man who is physically less broad and powerfully-built than those around him, and they think WOOBIE.
But that's really not what I think Loki communicates. I think he's emotional and hot-headed and very frustrated because of his own physical limitations
...and yet I can't see him crawling into Thor's bed in tears, just wanting a hug.
When he's upset, he doesn't want comfort. He wants to be left alone to stew and build up as much bitterness as possible.
Also I can't see him as effeminate - in fact I think it's sort of weird and sexist when I see fans who think thinner man = weaker man = woman.
He's manly, though perhaps not consistently in the hetero-normative sense, because he lives in a society that strongly encourages men to be macho. Why would he try to be effeminate in such a society?
...I'm also not a fan of Thorki. Sorry, haters gonna hate
I mean, I've read Thorki fics and even enjoyed some of them, but I can't get behind the ship.
They may not be blood related, but they thought they were until very recently. And siblings sleeping together is taboo in most societies. I DO believe Loki is completely omnisexual, but not that he wants Thor.
Yeah, I think you can see Loki as sympathetic and compelling without turning him into a woobie.
Loki is a terrifying, nasty little shit.
I had horrid flashbacks to tumblr debates as I read this. Your opinions are grand and I agree with them but Oh God the things I've seen on there. (And I will be borrowing this meme).
I DO think Avengers missed some of the layers and reduced him as a character, though.
But that can probably be explained by being tossed into an icy void.
(WHICH WAS HIS OWN FAULT, FANDOM, HE LET GO.)
Oh my God, Tumblr is so scary about Loki.
They sort of seem to forget he's a lying little shit. As if he was telling the truth when he was like THOR TOSSED ME INTO AN ABYSS.
Though by that point he's lying so well to himself that I think he believes it.
Avengers didn't have enough time to show his journey, I think, so he did seem to become a little less layered. He also seems to have forgotten most of his own magic.
I think that was because their SFX budget was blown on the Chitauri and Hulk.
Their conclusions about Loki boggle the mind. I wouldn't mind nearly as much if they could present them WITHOUT bashing the other characters (especially Thor) to make him look better.
Someone needs to hold tumblrs hand and tell them it's okay to like a villain.
SERIOUSLY. Poor Thor gets a horrible wrap on Tumblr. Even though he's the - uh, good one. Like, legitimately a hero.
