Nice find. Those grow around this area, but not in the areas I usually walk. One of our neighbors knows all the spots where they grow on her property though and it was fun to walk with her once while she filled

up her apron with them. Many seemed to like growing around the base of cut trees, where there was rotting sawdust and tree debris.

I've heard that they usually pop up around downed elm trees. Something in the life cycle of the spores, but I've never really studied it.
