So my son is 'failing' social studies. In his Stuart mind failing is 90. He's only gotten one B this entire year and anything less than an A is not okay because he pulled up his math grades and can now add

and multiply a bit and scores 98s on his test. Oh and by the way 98 is not acceptable, the one problem he got wrong, he got the numbers mixed up, and the teacher was just being mean.

so anyway I asked him what he is studying in Social studies and he told me that he does not understand. I asked him to tell me and maybe I can explain or we can read books on it, or search google

or netflix and find some resources on it to help him understand better. He told me he doesnt know. So I told him to tell me by tomorrow or I'm going to take his DSI away for the weekend because he should at

least know what he's studying. So he told me that he would bring his book home. So then I told him that I have a social studies degree, and I might be able to help. I told him I know history sometimes seems

boring, but if you remember that those who don't understand history are doomed to repeat it. I never really could remember events and dates that good, but I did learn a lot about people, and really you can

have a social studies degree just like people. (like take Anne Frank) for example. Like they taught about slavery in his school by making the students reed Meet Abby. Actually by reading that American Girl

book he learned more about the Underground Railroad and also how freed slaves were treated after the war. I think it was a good way to teach.

Sort of digressing (okay a lot) when I was in college (I think maybe younger) I watched Clan of the Cave Bear and I think the movie I was just like WTF? but my step mom (ex step mom?) told me to read the books.

Well sometimes (all the time) I don't have a very long attention span even now I'm still reading TFIOS and it's not like its a wonderful book but I don't have a good attention span and sometimes you don't want

a book to end because you know something bad is going to happen. Anyway so I eventually got around to reading the Jean Auel (sp?) books and I went through them fast and I loved them. In actual college I

didn't know WTF I was going to do. I think I might have taken an assement test IDK even. I recall I tried computer programming but my math skills suck. Then there was a debate between creationalism and

evolution and I went to see it because at the time I was in college ministries and it was suggested as my group leader that I go because I had 'liberal'

ideas about creation. So I did but it had the opposite desired effect and I thought the professor that debated for evolution was very well spoken, and he told me he was having a class in the summer and could

get me in.

So then I started my degree in Internaional Relations which might as well been Antropology because I took EVERY anthropology class and I took some on archeology, and I was at the ground breaking for the

archeology department. I entered a contest (applied for a grant whatever

to go oversees on a dig and got approved because sometimes when I'm passionate about something I can be articulate. (shocker I know)

So I was telling my son this story, but he just looked at me, like yeah sure.

because I swear the boy, I wake him up at 630 but other than that he makes sure we are out the door by 700 and wants to make sure we get to on time, and tells me what is going on at school, and tries to

make sure I can keep up with his social life. So I've been a kid and a teenager before, and I know that he might see me as a feather (bird) brain that cant remember anything, and cant even get to school on

time, etc, etc. But I told him, you know I'm not really that way and I'm not always that way, I just have my mind on a lot of things, and it is hard to be a mom.
