flu or norovirus? when the vomiting is more than an hour and a half apart you can try to give him clear liquids
depending on what it is and the severity, in the morning you can try some sports drink cut with water and see if he can hold down a few crackers
there's always the "BRAT" bananas, rice, applesauce, toast
popsicles or even just ice if he's having trouble keeping liquids down and is getting dehydrated.
He sips water and within a minute he brings it up. About an hour ago he kept a sip down.
He keeps spending about 5-10 minutes cold then hot and sweating like a pig.
This has been going on all night. He's slept a little and I passed out but he's exhausted.
even a sip of water comes back up?
just keep trying the sips, you need water before you need food. if it doesn't get any better after 24 hours from when it started you should probably check in with a doctor
i'm tellin' ya, ginger candy and ice/popsicles has quite literally saved my life. same thing was happening to me.
I don't have a thermometer but he still feels hot. He's not going from to chills like he was and he's managed to keep three sips of vitamin water down.
I got the ginger ale (we don't have a freezer for Popsicles) and some chicken broth and some saltines as well. I'm going to try him on half a cracker in an hour.
water/fluids are the priority right now
after he hasn't puked for 8-12 hours then try the broth and saltines
I swear he's lost about 2 pounds in the past twelve hours. He doesn't have that to spare at 5'10" 130lbs. He has managed to drink half the vitamin water and I think he's actually asleep right now.
He lays down for two minutes then is back to sitting up. He can't get comfortable. He hasn't eaten in three days now.
there should be a
there.
chicken broth really IS good, but won't help much until he's keeping liquids down. ginger ale will work, yes!
when it happened to me, i was worried i couldn't keep ginger ale down either, so i sucked on ginger candy until i could. but if he's drinking water now, he should be fine on ginger ale.
He's managed a whole bottle of vitamin water and half a mug of broth and a two hour sleep. Still got that fever though. I can't seem to break it.
don't worry too much about the weight loss, i have more to give but lost over 10 lbs in 3 days
if you have a thermometer, track the fever and check WebMD, etc for beyond normal ranges
as long as the fever isn't TOO high, it's uncomfortable but it's doing its job.
Thank you all! He's slept and has eaten some crackers and a few bites of chicken. We've watched two movies, worked on wedding plans, and am going to sleep again. He's so much better.
Thank you all!
great
