although I do like playing not oc's because I think it helps me to feel constained by canon otherwise I don't know if I'd be able to find my own limits for a character

I'm better at playing OCs than I am canons. I used to play this guy called Leigharan and I don't think anyone I played with would say his character was inconsistent even if

his story kept getting more and more fucked up.

But I like canons. They force me to play by a set of rules and it gets up my skillz.
