What makes Plurk so great for conversation? Of course, that's why I love it, but I'm wondering why Plurk has this quality while other networks don't. What do you think?

the timeline that shows the original question and all the answers; no other platform does that (well, except FB); and Plurk seems to have drawn the people who want conversations without drama

I rather like plurk (as opposed to twitter), unfortunately it has not really taken off where I live.

snorkelbuddy i agree absolutely. but i want to probe deeper - how did this synthesis of like-minded people occur? Simply because of the interface? I'm kinda hesitant to believe that -

i've been on Plurk since its very early days and i remember the community effort that went into it. Plurk was the only network where you could say "hi" and people would say hi back. It was (and is) great.

but as you, Silverelf, point out, Plurk hasn't really taken off (in most places). what happened?

one of the reasons for this is, i believe, Plurk's development sort of whimpered and (almost) died. the interface needs an upgrade - desperately. i had mentioned all this to amir a long time ago, but i guess
