since when did we start naming Noreasters? I grew up outside Buffalo and don't ever recall the storms getting named

Seems everything has to have a label nowadays. In my day, a storm was a storm and there was no hype over it.

meteorologists seem to get all excited when they can name storms now so it happens constantly.

in my day (am I getting old?) it was called Blizzard of '77 not named with some arbitrary decision
