Ah! And there is the answer; I was wondering how the DNA could be so conclusive; after that many generations, chances half the population of Europe would share some of his genes, and direct descendants

May have none left... But if they tested mitochondrial DNA, yes, that would be conclusive.

They are a bit overly dramatic in saying that they were lucky to find someone as the line was going extinct, though. There were traces of mitochondiral DNA found in prehistoric skelettons... Certainly if the
