if not, I think you need some kind of TV tuner card and hook up your TV cable to it.

yeah, that's what i thought.. tv tuner might be needed..

then a recording software. I don't know which one tho, since I don't have one set up.

what do you intend to do ? record a video from TV or stream Live TV online ?

if you intend to record a video from TV what you need to do is get a video/audio capture device

you may use this tool to record Audio/Video via composite connection , (the yellow cable for video composite, red & white for audio)

normally this device comes with a software .. so that you may capture A/V in your PC then record them

or you may use a third party software like a Video Studio .. in which you may select the USB A/V Capture device as source

.. a TV Card may be another device option ..

if you have any of these devices, you could do record the video in your PC , .. or stream the video online through sites like Justin.TV or USTREAM .. etc..

if you are intending to record a video that is already streaming on the Internet, and wanted to record it ..

one method is use a screen capture feature of Camtasia ... you may select a portion or the whole desktop activity by using Camtasia ..
