okay, I don't think the book should be banned, but it does need to be reframed for who it's meant for.

it's been... 20 years since I read it last and it still sticks with me.

It has always been one of my favorites.

It really just needs MUCH more historical and cultural background discussion in this area than where I grew up in Alaska.

It just reminded me that I'm not at Western in Washington anymore.

I was all expecting this discussion on the stereotypes and some of the other stuff. They were all hung up on the "rape" scene.

And outraged that the one page, basically fist fight could POSSIBLY be for kids..

I really need to just let it go, but I was annoyed. What kind of books do they think kids should read? Ones where nothing real happens?

No wonder half the recently graduated high school students at the school are so clueless. They haven't ever had to deal with anything real.
