they make me so frustrated sometimes
A subject I have studied for along time is the social and economic impact of biogenetic and IT technology
I'm reeling from shock and anger that an alleged intellectual would be so dishonest
I watched this TED speech on You Tube
Juan Enriquez says our advances in technology will "reboot" and overshadow our economy.
This is a sucker's game n the worst sense. Promising a golden age which is the exact opposite of what will happen first
listen to me, i sound like a nut job
no that sounds interesting...
please don't get me wrong, i believe what will happen next is an important next step in human development
what do you think will happen anyways
but it is wrong to try to get funding by selling a pretty picture, when you must have figured out already that its going to be bleak
The scientific community agrees we are at a key point where AI, nanotech, biogenetics, and materials science are at a point that we will
make the first great in human lifespan, cognitive and physical enhancement.
sorry: left out leap. in some ways it is already happening
oh so its literally three leaps in evolution, biological, and technological happening all at the same time>?
so what follows homo sapiens sapiens is coming!
The problem is that science assumed that an improvement to individuals equals an improvemnt in society
Right now, because we can't control our lifespan, human endeavor is centered around improvements in quality of life
Once lifespan is an issue, society will shift from a quality to quantity footing
In short, people scratching tooth and nail just to continue existing
This will be a very dark period for humanity
Hopefully, it will be a short period
but the transition will likely be violent
because the business model for keeping people scratching to survive is clear,
what comes after that is much less clear
yes its what japan's actually experiencing since it has the longest lifespan now
when you can spend money to prolong lifespan, it becomes top priority. Quality of life will become a frivolous expense
i think we are entering a dark age. five, 10 years--- maybe. but development won't stop. research will go on in the background that will
startle the world in 15, 20 years. we won't recognize the modern world in 20 years. so all our projections and whitepapers, are nothing but
wild guesses. this economic crisis will be change the face of the world. there're new opportunities to overcome but yes, it isn't quite rosy
i think down the road utilities will cease to exist IF promising new technologies can come in to play. Like that MIT discovery that mimics
photosynthesis. IF that device can be manufactured so that each house/each person becomes a producer of energy, entirely self sufficient
then we'll need new economic models. It isn't limited to energy. "Mesh Networking" promises to create ad hoc networks between two peers.
imagine a world were EACH person, tied to an iPhone like device becomes the "cell tower"? where each devices makes the internet prevalent.
it wouldn't be limited to mere phones. Each Car can become a peer on the larger internet. imagine a world were if you can generate energy &
be a mechanism for communication, what a world that could be. getting there is a HUGE question.
