So Wilson had a thymoma which was tragic and ironic and so forth.

But I just don't understand why he would refuse treatment.

Especially for something with such a high survival/remission chance.

As a character, he's never been that selfish or that vain before.

I suspect they had been planning it all along, but Fox didn't give them enough warning before they cancelled it.

I think that's why it was jammed into five episodes with no foreshadowing.

I think, unlike Sherlock, it wasn't really meant to be a plot twist for the viewers, just a plot device to get House and Wilson together.
