because I... am really not getting the whole "let's have a bunch of kids KILL EACH OTHER" idea... what's there to gain?
It's commentary on society, money, power, and social situations.
It's not just what it appears. It's a metaphor.
We (as young people) are told "if you work hard and fight, you can be rich and happy." So we all but kill ourselves trying for it
And are we happy at the end of it, when we've survived it?
Anyway--there's more layers to it than that (some more obvious than others), but that strikes me as the thrust of the understood commentary.
