I have had many of them over the past month, so this plurk is for sharing!
May contain swearing, illness, medical procedures and death.
So today we were talking to the Resuscitation Team about epi dosing, when a Code Blue went off.
I looked around at the code screen and I heard all the buzzers go off around me and then recede.
By the time I looked back, they were gone.
No apologies, no hesistation, they were just gone.
There is something amazing about a workplace where "What I am doing is more important than your social niceties" is actually true.
ahaha, your first emergency.
I have been in that situation a few times.
I wasn't even part of it, I just watched the team disappear. XD
it's kind of incredible and adrenalin-filled
They had to run to a different ward and everything.
well, yeah. but still, it's an interesting thing to witness.
I also saw a cardioversion! Which was just like on tv!
Except with more midazolam. I don't remember them sedating the patients on tv.
when I used to get emergencies I'd go into this absolutely focused state.
where I could do anything and nothing mattered but the patient
ooh. I don't even know what a cardioversion is :/
The guy came in with long-term afib so we electrically cardioverted back to sinus rhythm.
I am glad they used midazolam, then
It failed, though. He had to come back a few days later for chemical control.
Midazolam is the magical drug paediatricians love.
Yeah. Kids can't remember to be scared of the doctor. It's a big help for kids who are in hospital a lot.
hmm. if we did that we'd be accused of overmedicating
funny how different the standards are
It's not automatic or anything. But it's something they offer for the parents' sake.
Also, the fun that ensues when you are set both prochlorperazine and chlorpromazine as homework.
And you are incapable of pronouncing them one after the other.
Hilarity ensues in the dispensary.
And then the hilarity that ensues inside my head when I try to give a presentation and realise I have been watching way too much House.
And I am channelling Foreman. And I am putting on an American accent. And I can't stop.
I stood there for almost a minute trying to remember what I was supposed to sound like.
Then remembered to channel Chase instead.
Thank god they have an Australian character.
Yes, they make fun of him for it. XD
The other awkward moment when you buy Subway for dinner every weeknight and then the guy at Subway memorises your order.
Which is kind of tangentially hospital-related.
oh god, that happened to me a lot \
Interesting plurk to read.
