They were a pair of human statues dressed as WWI soldiers, and they were extremely good at it.
And every time someone dropped money in the tin, they snapped to attention and waved and shook hands and stuff.
They were really expressive and hilarious and generally awesome.
But, because they were human statues, they attracted assholes trying to get them to break character.
oh wow, that sounds awesome
I went up and gave them money three times to interact with them because they were so hilarious.
But the thing is, an asshole who wants to harrass a performer is going to do it straight away, so most of them didn't realise that
So every time someone was trying to sneak up behind the statues, someone from the crowd ran up and dropped money in the tin
so the statues snapped to attention and scared the shit out of the assholes.
I wish I could have seen that
Yeah, they were the best street performers I've seen.
They had great character, too. One of the was really sweet and friendly and got sad if you didn't interact with him.
And the other was really angry-looking and disapproving and hilarious, and he got creeped out if you hugged him.
When you give them money, they'll pretty much interact in any way you like. He just pulled weird faces and didn't hug back.
But I tend to think everyone is Abe, so thanks for validating that.
Except the other statue kind of looked like his friend... maybe he was just generically nice.
Either way it was super adorable!
ALSO! Other street performers!
There was a group of men doing Irish Tap in tight shirts and suspenders.
When I was in Rome there were these statue people who were painted up in gold or silver paint! At first I was kind of creeped out
but after I got used to seeing them (and how professional they were about it) I found them really cool!
I have always liked human statues, but I've never seen any others interact. These guys did really well off it, too.
I always wonder about the life stories of people who are doing that! Of course I would never ask, but I make up stuff in my head.
Haha, I wonder about the life stories of the character they
man, now I feel like a philistine for not thinking anything beyond 'this performance is awesome, I hope this person isn't poverty stricken'
I'm writing fanfic in my head and you're worried about their financial status and you think you're the philistine?
not really. you're wondering about their art
Oooh, those performers sound AWESOME and AMAZING.
I want to hug the non-huggy one! And also the friendly one!
Could you make them hug each other?????
????
I don't know! I totally should have tried that!
