and I like the idea of a game that can alter reality
xD sorry, I'm just trying to get my thoughts together coherently
So it raises some really interesting ideas about how virtual worlds connect to the real world
and the story has definitely got me sucked in!
It took a little while, but it definitely has me.
I'm really curious to see where its going.
after act 1 it speeds up a lot
iirc the only characters whose facces you see in act 1 are john and rose
The things I don't like are small but they kinda grate against me -
like the human kids seem really...bratty?
13 year olds tend to be that way
xDDD dude, if my thirteen year old acted that way I would be concerned
I mean...John throws his dad's cakes in the toilet
and he steals his dad's PDA
Rose makes a little bit more sense with regards to that
i don't think that stuff is meant to be taken very seriously tbh
the cake thing is bc his dad bakes him like
I know, and I understand that it's just...me
but that behavior just seems a little abraisive
haha well i guess it would feel different reading it as a parent
at this point in time the parental figures are like... not really characters yet?
john really really loves his dad though
xD well, I mean, I'm not a parent either
but I've worked at like summer camps and stuff
OH FaslkjlkLMFAO I READ THAT TOTALLY WRONG
and I know what behavior was expected of me when I was a kid
and that shit just would not have flown! xD
hahaha i guess this is just interesting to me
And I've read 13 year olds in fiction that I really love
honestly i don't think john is entitled at all
later one he's referred to as the leader
and he says "i'm not their leader, i'm their friend"
honestly though... all teenagers are entitled
kids think the world revolves around them and their needs
I...don't think so
that behavior isn't encouraged but the thoughts are still there
but it also fits with the overall style of the narrative
all the parents come off kind of absentee if you know what i mean?
yeah, and it tends to be a little abrasive
which kinda fits right in the middle of "things I like about it" and "things I don't like about it"
so I'm kinda undecided on that point yet.
I am waiting with baited breath for the troll characters to show up
you're going to be waiting a long time LMAO
you don't officially meet them until act 5
but karkat and a couple of others make brief unnamed appearances in chat w/ the kids
starting in act 4 i think
...but the troll characters are such a huge part of the fandom
I would have thought they played a bigger role
haha well they're a huge part of the story too
xD well I guess this means I just have to power through the rest
and the first half of it is all trolls, no kids until the second half
honestly i like the kids better than the trolls lmfao
THE TROLLS ARE AMAZING I LOVE THEM ALL
ok this is enough can i have the kids back now
the troll/kid interactions are great too bc culture clash
and i promise it gets a lot more interesting after act 1!
I'm hoping to see more character development from the kids
oh yeah there definitely is
so yeah! I'm hooked
they're all really close so the way they interact with each other tells you a lot
about who they are as people
oh...I'm not sure I like Dave.
but I'm thinking his behavior is the most easily explicable
like, I might not LIKE it but it makes sense from a psyche perspective
/ oh, I have read a little into act II
But it does look like it will only improve
OMG NOOOO DAVE IS MY FAVORITE
what don't you like about him?
also yeah he is pretty transparent lmfao
^^;;; I know you said you wanted a break from this but...the sexism.
It just struck a particular nerve with me because it hits me hard especially when young boys are like that
i guess it doesn't bother me bc i don't think he's actually sexist?
like he acts sexist as shit
but I'm thinking it will come back to something his mother did or something?
So he's taking it out on girls
which I can kind of understand because I went through the same thing with my dad and men
the way dave talks is a front
he doesn't actually think that way
Ah, I mean, at this point, it's kinda hard to tell?
also it calms down a massive amount
really haha he always seemed pretty idk
like someone who hides behind words a lot?
that this series is probably more relateable to South Park than anything else.
lfkasdmlJ;SDKGJ LMFAO I KNOW SOMEONE WHO WOULD BE
It's not offensive! South Park is actually a very clever show
xD and it captures kids being bratty in a little bit more of an understandable way
honestly though i don't really see the brattiness
with the trolls i do but not with the kids
well the trolls are kids too
I guess I just notice it more because the humans are human?
and they're also the only characters I've met so far
so we'll see
so far it's really fun though
oh the thing about dave is
he was raised by his brother? no ladies in sight
aaaah that makes a lot of sense
he basically imitates everything his bro does
and i promise the sexist language gets toned down a lot haha
and the way he talks about rose in the beginning isn't how he really feels about her
