is it a girl or a boy ;w;
my other one was a girl but she died a couple of months ago
that's always sad
he's my big strong manpuppy
I love my boys though, they're so cuddly
who is scared to be away from me now bc his sister died ;_;
mine isn't very cuddly haha he's just clingy
what kind of dogs are they?
One's a beagle and the other's my lab-border mix
so I have both ends of the intelligence spectrum
oh god lab/border sounds so so sweet
my dog who died was an aussie
she was gorgeous and smart and really loving
I've never had one but I've known a few people who do
I'm seeing more mini-aussies these days though
all the dogs i've ever had have been herding breeds haha
my current baby is a sheltie
so was my first dog but she died when i was 3 so i don't remember her
i've also had an aussie/black lab mix
oooooh that sounds like a great mix
and yeah mini-aussies are so cute??? i think people just think a small one will be more manageable
which i doubt is true bc they're such a handful
and yesssss it was a fantastic mix
I've seen plenty mini aussie and mini aussie mixes come to the shelter
the lab made him really really mellow
(usually a rescue group picks them up)
and he had this big thumpy tail and a lab face and aussie fur
a little courser but it was long and thick and he was all black and blue merle and gorgeous
awwww, I'll have to post pictures of my border-baby sometime.
He's a handsome boy and he knows it.
my sheltie is snoring next to my bed sometime
i'll pull up pics in a minute if you're interested?
and I'll try to dump some of my pictures off my camera after it charges
they might all be on pb/tinypic though
not a double merle afaik btw
YOU HAVE THE ABSOLUTE CUTEST DOGS!
Your Aussie looks like she was such a sweetheart
and your guy looks like a sweetheart, too
I've always really liked shelties
They're a little more like Lassie-Collies and they can just chill and do their own thing
at least in my experience
compared to borders (and a lot of Aussies) who really need a JOB.
or scooter is. leia was
i'm still not really used to her beign past tense
scooter was a little butthole when he was younger
we adopted him as an adult bc he belonged to my granddad
and then my granddad died
and he was NOT at all well-traiend
or socialized w/ people or dogs so he barked and growled and was hostile constantly
but he's mellowed out so much as he's aged
That sounds like our situation with our border-boy
I adopted him when he came through the shelter because we were looking for a friend for our beagle
and we kinda wanted a herding dog again but not a pure border because crazy
he was 5 months and the world's biggest sweetheart
<.< now he's a teenager and we're going through the "I'm a brat" phase
where he's either like the best dog in the world or a psycho
do I also sense some beagle love in this plurk?
deaf dogs are the best tbh
this is Bounce and he is 11 years young now and please excuse the artsy b&wness
That's how he gets your sympathy and food.
Of course we love him anyway ):
bounce is such a great dog name???
and he came with it at the shelter!
i love when shelters give dogs great names
Very regal-looking gentleman.
And yes, the shelter gave him that name as well. I love how it worked out.
Put simply, he's kind of the Elwood to Bounce's Jake??
we call them the blues brothers all the time ewljgrglj
i love it when dogs are bros
my dogs were definitely not bros
leia wanted to be but scooter would have none of it
my aunt and uncle have two elderly goldens who are the best of bros
but they do it in this really mellow gentle way? it's so cute
i want a golden really bad
they are the actual sweetest dogs
yeah if my mother goes through with looking into an assistance dog one day, she'd love a golden
My Max will do anything for food
he's TOTALLY camera shy though >.<
everything is food and nothing hurts!
ham and cheese: an excellent combination
ffft yes, Bounce has been gaining a bit for the past few years
not surprising for the breed, but yeah
Skip somehow remains thin and lanky no matter how much you feed him.
this is a beautiful plurk
this plurk for all the beautiful puppy love
and deaf dogs are fantastic indeed, i've toyed with the idea of opening my home to a deaf dalmatian-type ever since i learned how prevalent-
-it is in them (at like... age 7... what a nerd)
also commenced with the liking!
A lot of older dogs come to the shelter and a lot of them are deaf.
I love them so much.
In some ways, working with them is a different experience but in other ways they're the same as other dogs.
Considering how attuned dogs are to body language and hand signals anyway
Exactly! And their overall in-tuneness to people's feelings really doesn't change.
most times paying more attention to that than anything else!
gah plus old dogs are just the sweetest
deaf dogs are wonderful because they don't bark at random noises EVER
and they sleep a lot more heavily which is cute.
we got leia for free because she was bred by a professional aussie breeder out in the country
and she primarily sold her dogs as working dogs
leia's dad and her grandfather were both champions of herding competitions
but leia wasn't to breed standard
and she was deaf which made her valueless as a working dog
and she was a purebred aussie
just not pedigreed bc again, her coloring (and possibly her hearing? idk if hearing/sight are required for pedigree)
she lived to be 17 and a half
the last year or so of her life i was living in residential psychiatric treatment
so i only saw her for a couple of weeks out of that time
and between april and november of last year i never came home at all
a few days before i came home she started declining REALLY fast and two days after my plane landed she lost the use of her hind lgs
so my brother came home for his thanksgiving visit early and we took her to the vet to have her put to sleep
it was the first time i was there when one of my pets was euthanized and it was really, really nice
it made the death much easier to deal witha nd accept, i think
and now it's kind of like there's a hole in my household haha because she was around for so long
and scooter has really baaaad separation anxiety now. he starts barking and crying if i leave him alone for more than five minutes.
i'm wearing my mom down on the idea of getting another dog lol
flkasjdgljasdkgjas I LOVE DOGGIES
