Looks like the real problem is the BLM people limit. The BLM has been harassing burning man for YEARS, upping the requirements constantly,

and doing everything possible to "keep those dirty godless hippies in check".

There are zero limits and requirements of things like dune buggy races etc. Redneck sports wrecking the land are just fine....

a woman in my office who has a regular theme camp didn't get a ticket and out of her group of thirty, only two did.

The BLM issues are severe. However, I think one could have predicted a lottery system would backfire for an event like Burning Man ...

specifically because there would be no way to guarantee all members of an established theme camp would get tickets.

Looks like bunch of folk will be there but not the art or theme camps the way it is going.....

It's really a massive problem this year, and has caused all sorts of backlash.. but it's true about the BLM and the Burn has always had

a huge struggle managing to even keep the event running year after year. I don't envy their challenge though i do think the lottery idea

bound to cause strife.

the risk is that the scalper tickets will be bought by rich people not making art and the artists will be excluded.

And the same is true for increasing the fees to what the market will bear, so they can't do that either.

I think they are going to have to rethink 'Radical Inclusion' as one of their core values. That just isn't possible anymore.

One solution is going to be Seniority. And that will make it an increasingly old crowd with decreasing excitement and energy.

I do have a solution though. Give half the tickets to 'core'. That would be camps with defined member limits that were juried for inclusion

The other half would be lottery with one or two tickets per person and ID printed on ticket. The 2 could apply with 2 IDs.

Well those with the art/theme camps should be able to apply in advance so they can estimate those needs first.

Yes, everybody with an art theme camp would apply for core status with their project. But some would have to be juried out.

That whole process would be over before the lottery starts so those who didn't get into core could apply for lottery.
