96.3 FM which was for several years known as B96...hip-hop/R&B. Flipped to adult top 40 two years ago.
this is when the Pohlad family purchased the signal from an independant owner.
Pohlads (aka Northern Lights broadcasting) spent a small fortune to move the towers from Glencoe to New Hope. Took the signal from 100,000
watts in the west to under 20,000 watts in the middle of the twin citiies.
they've been calling themselves 96.3 Now and going head to head with KDWB.
word on the street was that 96.3 never beat the legendary KDWB in it's two year attempt to steal listeners.
so a couple of weeks ago it was noticed that the Pohlads applied with FCC to grab legendary call letters known in the twin cities as KTWN.
yesterday they softly launched a new format (after what is being called one of the most expensive radio researchs done) in the twin cities.
96.3 K-TWN, "Your Town, Your Friends, Your Hits".
something to note...the Pohlads would also like to have some known baseball team on FM as well. Hmmm.
Who is the Programming Director? Anybody local with personality/good taste or is it just Arbitron-ratings driven?
Good question. I do know that the station general manager continues to be Steve Woodbury. He is a long time minneapolis radio manager.
I've been listening a little bit here and there...very interesting format. One of the promos for the new station bluntly mentions other...
radio stations and why they suck.
Funny...that was always a radio no-no...never ever mention another radio station's call letters or frequency.
listened to the new morning show...debut this morning. Tone Fly & Eric Perkins from KARE 11. yikes. that'll need to develop.
listened last evening to/from White Bear Lake (30 min each way)...it would be safe to compare K-Twin to Jack FM. With DJs..
but the whole point of Jack is to not have to pay annoying people to introduce songs
I have most of my radio presets set up so I have 2 similar stations on each button. That way if they start talking, I can switch faster
