Since I was able to go to ISTE this year, I have tons of research and ideas, but IF YOU could do anything to make a real difference in under
Boy that's gonna be one hell of a lot of concrete!
In underprivileged schools, where would you start... Possibly able to purchase hardware and software. Have 28 schools 7000 students..
Hardware and connectivity. And I'm not sure they know what is possible to do, so collect a few choices for them and have them decide.
It might be good to ask here and get a good set of ideas.
Make sure you invest in PD for teachers: stipends, incentives, trainers
HEY! Fly Kevin and me up there! We'll do you up right!!
And you'll have a blast with us!
me too! I want to join in!
connectivity is important...Kevin/Ginger for PD is important...research BYOD and purchases can augment those who do not have
4-6 computers in a classroom are useful for project work....as well as multiple digital cameras and multiple digital video cameras
don't neglect your infrastructure. (bandwidth, wireless access, etc.) document cameras have been a hit around here, along w/flip cams,
mp3 players, & digital cameras.
WOW, time difference allows you guys to post before I wake up
. These are all awesome ideas, I agree "management" needs to decide.
But WE(as in all Tech coordinators) need to kind of move THEM in the right direction.
Kevin, Ginger and crew in Canada? Has that been done before?
Kanard: Not together, but you might get a deal with the two of us together... Kevin hooks 'em and I cook 'em.
blipvert: lol, yep, it is $200.00 a yard=500yards, so could pour an entire football field incl end zones at 4"thick... Hhhmmmm . Lol
lsheehy7: we put a huge load on teachers to stay ahead of the curve. Anyone using incentives to increase adoption?
We'd do it in mid February so you can really feel what -50C is like... Lol.
All the help thanks guys/gals
Kanard: Oh my gosh! I'm
so up for the challenge!!
eyeballing the clothes I packed for New Orleans and re-thinking wardrobe purchases GingerTPLC: 22C in new Orleans , what's to rethink, bikini is all you need. We'll be -8 tonight, should almost be able to go skating!!
I know of different school districts with different incentives: some will remove technology if PD is not completed.
I believe anything that helps honor the teacher investment and reward them for initiative is a great way to go
lsheehy7: I love it, kinda reward system for the extra hard work, do you think incentives would push teachers that are on the edge of tech?
lsheehy7: like push them to get more into using technology, by giving a reward or are we just rewarding the Already overworked achievers?
lsheehy7: which I'm fine with, cuz I think the people who put in extra should be rewarded for it.
Kanard I think it should be a sliding scale. The overachievers should be recognized for their effort,
but something for those who are venturing into the unknown is definitely good too.
I heard of a District that says "If you go to training/workshops on some new tool, we will buy it for you"
shirky17: that's a good idea, even better if there is implementation.. Not everything is going to work out, but something for trying.
teachers should be responsible for creating/finding materials to share too
steps over time so they aren't overwhelmed or intimidated
lsheehy7: thank you, will keep all these ideas in mind, not only for this proposal, but for everyday use.
You might want to think about a peer coaching model. Have tech trainers that will work one-to-one with teachers & facilitate collaboration
