anyone have solutions to windows 7 creating a restricted user account and we don't have a windows server. We want to do this before we image

we have a novell server...we know that you can create a standard user but we want more restrictions

can't make a group policy because we use novel client for network.

we're moving to 7 sometime this yr, I wonder how our tech guys will solve this maybe this ..we use novell too

Not sure exactly what you're asking, but perhaps you mean "NTFS file permissions?" Right click on a file, go to security. DON'T click deny

for anything. Don't remove system permissions, or at a very minimum a local machine administrator account. You should be able to restrict

the default login user then, using an autologon to the workstation so you don't see the admin account.

It's not perfect, but (erm) if you're still using Novel, you've probably learned to settle.

Ugg. We're on W7 now, and it is difficult enough with a 2008 R2 server...

Novel was a great choice years ago. But while MS improved, Novel did little to improve beyond basic file & print services.

Active Directory is today comparatively inexpensive. There are lots of qualified consultants. And virtualizaton puts it over the top.
