any plurkers into clean energy / green tech?

Deezski is

using green power, or is that typically Dutch?
bryanr says

what car are you retrofitting? or are you doing a full build
bryanr says
whereabouts are you? are there hydrogen fuel stations near you?

Brazil, if I remember correctly?
bryanr says
also, fuel cell, not combustion, right?
iyzie has

patiently been waiting for my roof to decay enough to reroof, at which time I'm going Solar.
bryanr says

:-)
bryanr says
could do roof-integrated then
bryanr says
looks very cool, can be a bit harder to install (and a lot harder to replace panels if they break)
iyzie
I've been looking at all kinds - the solar shingles as well as panels. Problem is there's incremental improvements every year
iyzie
Makes me want to hold out that much longer
iyzie
The other problem is I want to go full PV, and the battery systems are muy expensivo
bryanr says
what state?
bryanr says
that's interesting, timy, i don't know much about hydrogen combustion cars
karlski says
i'm currently designing a motor that runs on gas plasma!!
iyzie
bryanr - what state for me? MD.
bryanr says
gas plasma? don't you spend more energy generating and containing the plasma than if you just ran an electric motor?
karlski says
hehehehe!!!
bryanr says

iyzie, maryland has net metering
bryanr says
so you don't need a battery backup unless you plan on going off grid
iyzie
I want the backup for power outages, plus net metering, last I checked, only sums per month - I can't use summer credit to pay off winter.
bryanr says
there's a 12-month carry-over
bryanr says
i like having a battery backup
bryanr says
for power outages of course
bryanr says
but... since it's just for emergencies, you're almost better off with a diesel generator
bryanr says
as un-green as that sounds
bryanr says
the extra money you'd spend on battery backup vs generator could go towards more solar panels ;-)
iyzie
hey! Wow. That's decent news. That means I could hold off on a batt backup until the tech really matures.
iyzie
The power outage backup is still something I'd like, but it's less essential
ThomasAD3 thinks

karlski has some top-secret way of generating gas plasma that he cannot talk about. (annoyed)
bryanr says
:-)
iyzie
ThomasAD3 - the method is called "beer".
karlski
it involves chilli but I cant talk about it
iyzie
Aha! Chilli *plus* beer.
karlski
needless to say with sufficient heat and gas volume steel sheet may be sliced
karlski
only one step from there to a practical personal transport alternative
ThomasAD3 says
Car needs a specially modified driver seat, I daresay. (LOL)
karlski
hahahah (LOL)
bryanr says
lol
bryanr says

cow's farts are contributing significantly to greenhouse gas levels
bryanr says

(not a joke)
Neez McNana
Nope but with a bank that promotes and finance it
Neez McNana
Yep, more than traffic, actually - the cows

i got a 2009 prius last month, does that count?
bryanr says
sure it does
bryanr says
at the time of the original post i was actually interested in talking investment-related stuff
bryanr says
but in general, glad to open it up for all discussion though
