Thora
thinks 13 years ago
that he should try knitting; it is very manly.
never heard of anyone calling knitting manly before.
many manly men that knit in Iceland. ((
))
stands corrected. Wonders if Thora knows how to knit?
finds throwing knives very theraputic, and enjoyable.
tilts his head. "Like playing darts?"
knits all of the time! She uses wool from her sheep… though throwing knives at Denmark sounds therapeutic.
Aloys
wonders 13 years ago
if Thora would teach him and is no longer so sure about throwing knives. Doesn't want to hurt anyone.
might teach him if he asks… So long as his sister isn't around. Mitzi scares her.
"Is it hard to learn?" Hasn't seen Schwester around.
shrugs. "No." At least she didn't think it was… though she had always known how to do it, so it may have been hard. She couldn't remember.
"Would you teach me then?"
frowns and looks around. She supposed that if his sister wasn't anywhere nearby it couldn't hurt, and he did seem friendly. "If you'd like."
pauses, "Is there something wrong? I don't want to steal a family secret or something."
doesn't think knowing how to knit was a secret. Millions of people did it. "Why would something be wrong?"
explains, "You looked sad for a moment, but I must be mistaken."
perplexed, and shakes her head. "I'm fine." She wondered if she should invite him to her house, but she felt weird inviting a stranger over_
even though he seemed harmless enough… and she did need to get her needles and yarn to teach him. She would wait for him to say something.
ponders the offer. "Alright, I'd love to learn," he affirmed.
nods. "I'll have to get my knitting supplies…"
nods back. "Alright, want me to come with you?"
shrugs. "If you want." It would be hard to teach him if they weren't together.
, "Okay, where are we going?"
nods. "That makes sense..."
leads him to her house, debating whether or not to invite him in. She doesn't like inviting people in, but he didn't seem the type to make a
mess, and she didn't want to be completely rude to Switzerland's sibling.
follows after Thora, taking in the scenery around them. Looks at Thora questioningly once they stop.
stares at the front door to her house before opening it. "You can come in if you want."
"okay," and follows her inside.
"You have a very nice place," he says as he looks around the room.
hadn't expected a compliment. Her house was very drab compared to most modern houses. "Thank you… Are you thirsty or hungry?"
thought about it. "I'm a little thirsty, now that you mention it."
leads him in to the kitchen. "Milk, or Coffee?"
nods. She didn't want to share the last of the milk Basch had given her, but she didn't want to seem too rude. She pulled out two cups and
poured the milk for them, putting the container back in to the fridge when she'd finished. She held out a cup towards him. "Here."
takes the cup from Thora. "Thank you." He takes a sip from the cup.
opens a cookie jar and places a handful of cookies on the plate. "Yeah…" She nodded and grabbed the plate and her cup, walking back in
follows Thora into the living room. "So do you live here alone?"
nods. "Yes." She set the plate and her cup on the table before walking towards a small trunk that held various yarns and needles.
watches Thora. "So what are we going to knit first?"
pulled out needles, and a couple balls of yarn. "Uh…" She had never tried to teach someone to knit, but they should probably do something
easy. "What do you want to knit?"
had not thought about that. Considers a few different things. "Well what about a sweater?"
nod while setting the yarn on the couch and sits down. She took a sip of her milk. "It will take a long time." She warned him.
doesn't have any other plans. "That's okay, better to take it slow and do it right."
"Yes." She says with a nod. She set her cup down and held out a pair of needles to him.
takes the pair of needles after setting his own cup down. Stares at them.
takes her own needles. "You hold them like this." She said, motioning to him how to hold them.
nods and holds them in the position she's instructing. "Okay, got it."
grabs one of the balls of yarn and pulls some of it loose. She grabbed one end and started making a loop. "You need to make a loop… like
knot… thing… and stick the needle in it." She instructed, making a small slipknot slowly, hoping he understood the actions more than her
watches, confused by the instructions. "Umm.." tries to imitate the movement and makes a passable slipknot. "I think I got it..."
doesn't bother critiquing him. It was good enough. "Then you pull the yarn down so you have a loop on the needle, and um… stick the other
needle in it… and make another loop with the yarn…" She moves slowly through the motions, but honestly has no idea how to explain it well.
tries to keep up with her but gets a little lost. "Okay so yarn down... and then I put the other needle in the loop and..."
sighs in exasperation and reaches over to grab his hands, not having enough patience to wait for him to figure it out on his own. "Like
this." She said, moving the needles in his hands to create the stitch.
felt bad that Thora had to fix it for him. He nodded once he got it back and paid attention to how she moved the needles. "Just like this?"
nodded with a serious expression. "Yes. Repeat that twenty-five times."
"Okay..." attempts to do the exact same thing twenty-five times, feeling more concerned with every one.
watches him closely, her brows furrowing more at how upset he looked than at the fact that each stitch got sloppier. "You're doing fine."
"Really?" He asked with a smile as he continued, not improving in skill even though he felt better about it.
Thora
thinks 13 years ago
that regardless of how crappy it turns out his sister would probably be more than happy to take it from him. She nods. "Make sure you're
making tight stitches. You don't want them to be too loose."
looks at his work so far. "How tight are they supposed to be?"
goes back to her own needles and quickly finishes up her 25 as though it where nothing. She held it out to him. "Like that."
stares at Thora's quick and efficient knitting and compares it to his own. "Oh." He continues on, trying to keep it tighter.
notices his stare and wonders if she should try to console him or not. "You're not doing horrible." She had been knitting for centuries, her
first try had probably been bad, too.
isn't sure if that means he's doing well or not. "Thank you," he finishes up the twenty-fifth, "Alright, what now?"
pauses. "Um…" She goes through the motions slowly with her needles. "You slide the second needle under the loop here… then put the yarn
around it, and pull it back…" She felt a bit frustrated at how poorly she was at giving instructions.
Aloys
thinks 13 years ago
the frustration is at him, so he tries hard to follow this step. "I think I got it."
bites her lip to keep from showing more of her frustration. She blamed his mistakes on her instructions. She shook her head and tried to
reshow him, making sure to hold the threads out ostentatiously to show where they belonged. "Almost, but more like this."
understood better now that she had redone it. "Oh okay, sorry I'm a slow learner."
shook her head sheepishly. "I'm not a very good teacher."
frowns, "No that's not it, you just do it very naturally, that's all."
shakes her head. "I've done it for centuries; anything would seem natural after that long." Though she did pride herself on her knitting.
nods, "That's true.. but you're still really good!"
"Thank you." She says with a slight smile.
