How badly diverted are those personal goals?

it would be in complete opposition to what I want my life to be like. So I am thinking no.

I work 3 days a week now and travel a lot. I would have to work in excess of full time

and sheesh it's time to start a family FFS! I'm not getting any younger!

But I do love my job and would like to take this role, it's an important one, and would be challenging

If you want the job..take it. Then if you still feel strongly about starting a family you can...ther is no saying when it will happen

anyway. Might as well enjoy a challenge in the emantime.
