Not necessary, but definitely you need to plurk something everyday. Don't flood it, a few plurks, then after a few hours, a few plurks.

the karma update may be very very slow, but you'll see the climb after one or two days.

also, if you have people reply to your plurk, like what I am doing here, you will also have karma increase.

But when you hit 81 plurk nirvana, the karma increase suddenly turns extremely frustrating. Till then, don't worry, be happy.
