means "different" now. "Not pop." It has very little to do with the actual genre of Emo, or whether it's Independently produced music.

I might be wrong but I believe the first aperance of emo came out of the post-punk movement.

What I'm assuming you're calling a "third-wave" actually has nothing to do with what you're labeling as first and second waves.

Influenced by? Yes. But a lot of people were influenced by Elvis, that doesns't make them second generation Elvis.

And emo developed out of the hardcore punk scene, primarily in DC.
