you can allow yourself to be sad - unfortunatly most people from the outside looking in always call it "emo"

i think emo to is allowing yourself to play the victim all the time and seeing the negative in things constantly.

Being "sad" is a feeling, that is usually temporary and eventually you will "cheer up"

Bein "emo" is a constant sad and whinyness, where nothing makes you smile, you have thoughts of death and such
