I think when students are learning another language they learn some empathy for our immigrants.

learning another language means learning another culture.
First and foremost, learning is a good thing. Learning a new language opens a door to a whole new world and I agree w/Sheila & Ddaisy.
Plus, if one travels knowing different languages comes in so handy. The thing is, is that one must use the new language as much as possible
or one loses it. I took Latin all thru high school b/c it is the basis for so many other languages.
With our world getting smaller and people moving about so quickly it's nice to be even able to say "Hello" in different languages-
it breaks down a lot of barriers and gives a reason for smile.
Even knowing a simple "hello" in 12 different languages can open a dialogue and friendship begins.
