musicians always put in a lot of time! I majored in piano and voice - way back when.

1 hour a week lesson, full credit, but required 2-3 hours a day preparation/ practice.

that's the story of my life! Playing principal flute in the orchestra: 0 CR, 4 hrs of rehearsal and at least the same practice time ...

Homework, yes. And that never ends. Sometimes (not always) practicing is more enjoyable.
