I've read the negative opinions on it, and i understand the concerns,

but I don't agree with them. I think being able to choose your own name is extremely important to people, especially new users who don't

under4stand why you have to choose from a tiny list of last names. And as far as impersonation, I think people will very quickly learn to

look for usernames when doing any kind of transactions. People are smart enough to deal with it

Selecting a last name definitely held me up a long time and I've never been happy with it.

At the same time, once I had an account, it was fun to watch new names being added to see what sources were being used.

I think it was a fun enough part of SL culture, but I absolutely believe it was a sign-up hurdle.

yeah, its one of those weird idiosyncrasies of SL that long time users have become accustomed to

I can see how it's going to be very confusing for a while for a lot of us, but I think in the end, I'm going to end up enjoying it.
