exactly what they planned
humiliation and put-downs; negative relationships
Yes, Sharon. Humiliation and put-downs. Direct instruction and unclear rules.
Teacher directed students without determining level of skill or interest in end product. Teacher failed to explain "why this is important".
Teacher was there to serve own needs, not students'.
Cuff: As you said... but also that teacher did not make students feel important or valued in process. (Isn't it really all about them?)
i am sorry to state that many teachers were 'worst teachers' more about themselves than the students
students were vessels to be filled, teachers were experts - we now know that is big BS

social studies - totally textbook driven - read section; answer questions at end; test after every chapter over memorized info.
Difficult to choose b/w 2: One did not control the class and therefore learning impossible. Other talked at us the whole time!

I don't remember any actual teaching; I just remember her yelling and belittling students - This was 4th grade - I remember it sooo clearly

HS Government teacher told me to put my head down on desk and be quite. All because I proved to him that Senator Bob Dole was in the Senate

2nd grade: Threw my math book across the room where it slammed against the lockers, cuz never did my HW
we got hit with a ruler. But we got to pick our arm or our leg. We copied a lot of things off of the board. This was 2nd grade.
worksheets and long projects that were clearly not read or evaluated thoroughly by the teacher
(a close 2nd place .... my 2nd grade teacher used to grade our coloring sheets & give an F for coloring out of lines or w/ the wrong color)

I am hurting inside for all of you. As teachers we truly have the potential to make a lasting impression.

I had a teacher who was absentminded and never really in the classroom, and when she was, she would lose our assignments and claim that we

it's interesting - I really loved school and did well, but there was no technology back then; we are so NOT digital natives!
HS chem. His voice was never above a whisper, left the room during quizzes and tests. The labs had nothing to do with the content

oh! I have another worst teacher: senile old nun taught us diagramming sentences, using the same sentence every day for whole school year

for the entire 4th grade, all we did in English
they read from ancient lesson plans all day or made you copy notes from the board

The worst teacher I ever had really didn't teach. He' put problems on the board and have us copy them as examples on how to solve..

how do we get present day teachers to begin the "new" way of teaching--facilitating and project base rather than "filling" students minds?
