i don't think it's a ligament... and it doesn't hurt all the time, only when my knee is fully flexed with resistance

although hamstrings are muscles on the posterior side of the thigh, I think it's your hamstrings that's killing you.

it's not the joint that hurts. i think i just pulled the tendon - probably didn't warm up enough
