they aren't biodegradable and can put nasty crap in your veg garden. I stay away from them now. Use coir instead of peat.

no, this is some kind of finely shredded stuff. will go find the name of it. I liked it. 'sposed to be organic.

Used it when in charge of commercial landscape business, it did help aerate compact clay soil. Forrest Service uses slurry for seedlings.

I was thinking about using in flower garden to reduce watering in August next year.

I agree with Indy. Rabone, if you add compost, say, make it 25% of total, you will greatly increase your water retention.

yeah, your right, I need to get a composter and get it cranking out some black soil.

I even broke down and bought some bags of really nice organic compost this year. will get the actual numbers for you on how much it helps.

I use Daddy Pete's Soil for both garden and pots. I also add mushroom compost. Turface is good for water retention

my new favorite compost to buy is Cotton Burr. Hate polymer crystals.

Suburban, don't you find the burr compost compacts and then sheds water?

I mix it in & cover it all with shredded hardwood mulch.

we have to be careful with the mushroom compost. it comes from down the valley and it very high in salt content.

I stopped using mushroom compost when I had the dogs. They used to eat it. :-&
