Thanks! With concern to rumors vs. individual words or phrases, I'd say that a rumor feeds on a person's pre-existing mentality

like a parasite feeds on the tissues of a pre-existing host body. Individual words or phrases may add to the harshness of a statement

which might make it easier for the parasite of language to enter or infect the brain, but in and of themselves are less parasitic

on the other hand they do spread as a sort of "dirty word" type taboo perhaps as effectively or more so than a rumor
