that it's a supermarket where you can find a girlfriend of boyfriend.
that sort of thing is a waste of time.
shrugs. "It wasn't my idea aru!"
...is kind of weirded out by this, to be honest, but smiles in a friendly way anyway. "Oh...well, isn't that, um, interesting."
puts her hands on her hips. "Women shouldn't have to put themselves on a market."
rolls her eyes. "Men do it too aru! They're too busy to find each other the normal way aru."
giggles a bit. "Now that it's just shopping, they can do it with the rest of their chores?"
nods. "I suppose that was the idea aru."
smiles. "That's silly. That's not how it's supposed to be done."
shrugs. "Well, there's a bachelor crisis aru!"
doesn't get it. "A...what?"
repeats himself. "Bachelor crisis aru!"
blinks. "But what does that mean?" She imagines lots of unmarried men dying of some strange disease.
frowns. "There's too many more many than women aru! And they're going to be lonely aru!"
's face lights up as she gets it, then sinks into a worried expression. "How did that happen?"
rubs his cheek. "Boys are preferred aru! And there's the one child policy aru..."
looks thoughtful. "Yes...um, I'm sorry if this is rude, y-you don't have to answer, of course, but...why did you invent that policy?"
flaps a hand. "To limit population growth aru!"
frowns. "Yes, but...why would you want to do that?"
shrugs. "So we don't become even more crowded aru!" ((/totally bs-ing))
[[I think that's right? ;orz ]]
((me too...I couldn't find anything saying exactly WHY they started it. My google-fu has failed me.))
nods in understanding, then hesitates. "But...well, it's hard to imagine a world without siblings."
[[I think the Chinese teacher at our school once said something about world overpopulation or something.]]
nods. "But parents without siblings can have two children aru! Their children will have siblings aru!"
frowns. "So...you can only have a brother or sister if your parents didn't get one?"
shakes his head. "Minorities can have two children too aru!"
"Oh. I suppose...well, I don't really understand a lot of complicated things, so I'm sure you know what you're doing."
She smiles self-consciously.
smiles back. "At least you aren't like America aru!"
