perplexed. I managed to get enough strength to attend two diocesan seminars last week (March 5-6) led by Peter Kolar from WLP.

Peter Kolar is the senior editor for the Spanish-language division of JS Paluch. He is also a composer.

His talks were more of a promotion of his publishing house rather than of the Church's liturgical documents.

His setting, Misa Luna, actually violates the documents because he takes liberties with the texts of the Mass parts.

the danger when the diocese invites someone form a publishing house is that they wind up promoting their wares as opposed to the documents

Ugh, these publisher sponsored workshops are useless.

our bishop, I hate to say this, is completely clueless. the liturgies at the Cathedral are below subpar.

Peter Kolar was pushing his Misa Luna. I cautioned our music director against using it because of the issue with the texts.

Kolar even suggested that one of the rounds be used for "call to worship." He also promoted rocking out to songs during Lifeteen Masses.

I challenged him privately on his Mass setting. He had additional tropes for the Agnus Dei which do not match the text.

he paid lip service to Latin and could not answer my question about the organ.
benedictgal says

the talk was called "Enriching the Church's liturgy through music."
benedictgal says

it was not enriching nor edifying.
