or maybe you can do role playing at home.
his classmates ganged up on him trying to weasle 5 bucks from his baon. can you imagine that? LIMANG PISO!!!!
when he refused one of them grabbed him by the neck and strangled him.
his older cousin happened to come by and she hit the boy strangling my son with her book.

i wrong to teach him that being violent gets you nowhere?
eloisa
2008-09-11T15:54:25.000Z
getting violent per se does not get you anywhere. but sometimes, especially if it's self-defense, he should at least stand his ground

the goal is not to win or hurt back (although that would be great

), but more give himself proper self-respect, to defend his borders...
self-defense class like judo?
he's been having karate lessons.
he kicks his older brother really well. but can't seem to do THAT when it counts
i think it's more of teaching him how to have a healthy self-esteem
or maybe he gets shocked during such situations that's why he can hardly react
so maybe drill sessions with the son?
he's a very gentle boy. (okay, i REALLY sound like a stage mom now)
eloisa has met him though.

for just 5 PESOS?!! what are kids up to now?

I always tell my brother (younger by 11 years) to hit back if he's hit!

I grew up too much as a pacifist kasi so I wanted him to have a different view. heheh ayun, di naman basagulero but he's not a pushover.
well i guess i have to teach him to watch his boundaries and not let anyone overstep them
(i could teach myself that hehe)
if you don't mind me asking, does he have a good father figure?
eloisa
2008-09-11T16:11:21.000Z
oops...

sorry for answering that question for you

hmm...
dont get me wrong -- he's a good enough guy. walang bisyo pero parang wala din sya. LOL
we basically leave each other alone.
some guys are like that. hay
well i did tell him that we should have good talk tomorrow (my son and i, not the hubby -- that would be useless)

good luck
did any of you ever get bullied in school?
i was bullied in grade school
that's why i am very very shy in person
i dont recall being bullied -- i guess most kids do get bullied at some time or another right?
eegs -- maybe i've blocked it out. LOL

the therapist sounds like a good idea. She can help you rehearse what to say to your kid & his teachers etc. Roleplaying sounds good too.

I hope he's ok. I hope it didn't traumatize him. And was it *all* of his classmates?
he's okay. just couldn't believe it happened to him. he's a bit angry too cause he said he just froze.
CaliCat
says 2008-09-11T17:13:39.000Z

anger good. Sounds like he's already rehearsing in his mind what to do.
CaliCat

and I hope his teachers know and aren't apathetic.
