The game trusts both of them as equal protags, so you can go either way really

you pick one MC to be YOU, and the other is your Navigator
in 1.0
for a lot of the TV exploration,
you'll hear your Navigator yapping a lot
as a result, for a lot of the early game, you hear the Navigator talking more than MC
after 1.0 (so most content after ch3), they fixed this, and chosen MC has more voice lines

especially when you go hang out with other characters

so this WAS kind-of true in reference to early material but is a lot less true now

whoever you play as is Fairy's Master
while whoever you don't choose is called 2nd Assistant
Eous is First Assistant, and Fairy is Prime Assistant
so the unchosen one is (according to Fairy) 4th in the hierarchy, below the mascot

there's a walkmode where you can walk around as the other one, but for all cutscenes/store/etc, your choice is hardlocked in
