The game is huge. It can support both. It will only provide incentive for more people to stick with it who don't want to deal with an Open Queue.
I've been bouncing back and forth between Rivals and OW2 this last week or so and honestly there are times I just get sick of, "ah, yep. There's 3-5 DPS. I don't get to play Damage... again."
and OW2 has both. When I want coherent teams I boot it up. I want to play healer? I play healer. I want to play DPS? I wait an extra minute or so, and play DPS. I want to play tank? I select Flex and get tank every game because what else do you think you're going to get.
The most deeply frustrating thing about Rivals, besides the bots, is that, honestly. And it's not JUST on players; the devs launched this game with half the roster being DPS.
I know most of the Vanguard and Strategist roster inside and out at this point but haven't played like half the DPS heroes because of this.
Yep. And like 60% of my losses before I stopped was because everyone wanted to play DPS on my team, versus a well balanced team on the other side.
"No, seriously guys, 6 DPS can easily overpower any tank!" - Every pubby ever.
yeah, so the complaint of "oh you'd ruin the flexibility <_>" even though we're asking for a role queue in ADDITION to the open queue.
Also this mythical "flexibility" is a fucking unicorn and gave OW1 its worst, most damaging meta in its entire history.
(Also the OW teams refusal to nerf certain characters, but besides that.)
It blows my mind that they nerfed the fuck out of STORM, but left THIS as it is...
Nah, Luna's not even top of the heap in the meta. She's GOOD, but she's not Mantis good.
But a Good Luna paired with a Peni that knows to stay in her webs?
Mantis, Hawkeye, and Hela are broken as shit. I do think Luna's ult needs its time shaved down though.
Enjoy having a tank that never dies.
By the time Peni's in any danger, Luna's ult is up, and then OOPS, nobody dies unless the other team has a Scarlet Witch or Iron Man ult.
And Scarlet Witch is a matter of "How dumb is the enemy team?"
The most cancerous team comp, I noticed...
Peni, Venom, Luna Snow, Mantis, and any DPS (cough Hawkeye and Hela...)
And Peni with Venom's team up solves the one issue Peni has, which is the ability to deal with people that get in close.
what's funny is Peni isn't even high tier but pubbies absolutely don't know what to do with her
But yeah, nobody knows how to deal with her...
yeah it's mostly like. Strange, Hulk, Venom iirc.
(I like Magneto myself, but then Zarya was one of my best OW1 characters.)
"Kill the deployable" "But that doesn't get me points!" "Oh, okay, we'll just lose then. Thanks."
it's really funny how often I'll still watch people just set there and get farmed by Moon Knight while the ankh is right next to them
when I'm tanking (which is... often) I won't see it because its BEHIND ME, but that's also where the DPS are.
I think a lot of people think that Role Queue killed Overwatch and it's like... no, guys, there were a LOT of reasons that OW2 got annihilated, it's not the Role Queue.
OW2 is doing a lot better now, but the state it launched in (and what it took away) is astronomical.
OW1 had role queue for years prior.
Like... I'm going to be completely, 100% real here. DPS players are the only ones who took any hits from it, because they had to wait longer, instead of that instant queue where they could then force the same problem Rivals is currently facing since they wouldn't play tank or healer anyway.
it is literally "the problem complaining about the solution to them."
And beyond THAT, it's primarily HIGH TIER PLAYERS that have to wait the really long times because there's a single digit percentage of the playerbase to match against.
(And also how to kill your game)
(Obviously, OW2 fucked tanks SPECIFICALLY but that's another argument.)
Force a scrolling role selection: "You've played DPS the last 5 games, play Tank or Support you absolute nub"
but you're right it wouldn't go well
But so much of the game wouldn't.
I mean... I feel like League had this on the backend, at one point. I don't know if they still did but.
Role Queue in League literally had you go "pick two roles. You will probably get them but if the queue is completely swamped with those two you may be forced into a role you didn't select for."
You of course have to pair it with harsh leaver penalties so that people don't immediately just dodge when they're forced to tank, but--
